Our group was originally started back in the mid-seventies by a Mr Broadhouse who was a scenery designer with the BBC and who acted as a mentor to local artists. A few years later his role was taken on by Mrs Ellie Soar, a professional artist who lived in Pangbourne. Ellie remained Patron of our group for the rest of her life.Over time the group has developed into the relaxed, self-help environment for artists working in all mediums. We pride ourselves on providing a friendly and supportive place for people at all stages of their artistic development to nurture their talent.During the spring and summer, weather permitting, we arrange plein air sessions We visit local beauty spots where we can relax and usually enjoy a nice pub lunch. Locations we visited included, Hambledon, Dorchester and Ewelme We are always on the look out for new location ideas as long as there are suitable facilities.Although we don’t have a regular tutor there are workshops arranged during the year. We book professional artists and in various mediums to ensure everyone has the opportunity to learn and progress their particular interest. These are usually an all day Saturday session and a reasonable charge is made to cover the expenses. In the Autumn we present the annual Pangbourne Art Group Annual Exhibition. This takes place over 2 days and gives an opportunity for members to display their work and visitors to purchase works of art, postcards or perhaps just to meet the artists over a coffee and home-made cake.To round the year off we have a Christmas lunch when both members, partners or friends can attend. A typical meeting begins at 1.00 pm. We start with some informal chat (as is normal amongst friends!) and we then settle down to our own individual work Tea, coffee and nibbles are always available throughout the sessions.Meetings finish at 4.00pm.Excluding Bank Holidays, we meet every week except in August when we take our summer break.New members are always welcome and our existing members come from all over.Members pay an annual membership fee to cover the running costs. Additionally a small charge is made for exhibiting in the annual exhibition and if you opt to attend arranged workshops. We have a committee who are elected annually by the members who manage our finances and organise our various events and activities. All members are encouraged to get involved with the Committee and with the organisation of the exhibition and other key events. Some of our more experienced members sell their work at other exhibitions and at local farmers' markets as well as here from our own gallery.
